"Caged Bird", Intermission I.

Nenai sat cross-legged on the floor in her quarters, shuffling her keishiva deck while her snakes slithered over her.  Somehow they seemed to understand the significance of the cards, even though they were not from Mar Amon.  Nenai idly wondered if all snake-like creatures across the galaxy managed to communicate somehow.  It was a strange thought.

Singing softly to herself, the girl laid out five cards:

1

3

5

4

2

She looked at the spread, not quite knowing whether to be pleased or worried.  The first card, in the position of her current state, was Aiirike, goddess of Water and Spring.  She symbolized the properties of water:  serenity, with underlying turbulence.  Nenai understood that; she was outwardly at peace, but her heart was still against fighting and working for Freeza.  The rest of the spread was a mystery.

The second card was the card of positivity or negativity--the feelings of others towards her.  Much to her dismay, that card was "Lust", and there was certainly nothing symbolic about that!

That can't really mean Taurus, she mused.  That would have come up as "Passion"...So there is someone else thinking of me...but who?

Nanyatenei was the third card, and as far as Nenai was concerned, her deity's presence in the reading only made the rest of the cards all the more legitimate.  The position of the card stood for external influences, and this baffled the girl.  The card did not literally stand for Nanyatenei; it represented a dark, perhaps violent, male influence.  And, since she worshipped Nanyatenei, there was also a hint of allegiance there--someone in authority over her.

She frowned and looked at the fourth card, the future.  It was "Storm", one of the cards of violent change.  While there would seemingly be an upheaval coming, it would have positive effects--the silver lining of the clouds, the ill wind that did someone some good.

Nenai didn't ponder that for more than a moment.  She wanted to look at the entire spread as a whole.  As she considered the last card, the card of outcomes, her heart almost stopped.

"Bonds"...the card that represented the rarest form of love, a life-bond with another.  A bonded Amon couple was as one soul divided between two people; very few ever found this level of intimacy with someone, and here was Nenai, surrounded by aliens, being told that she would find this kind of love with one of them!

The two snakes pressed close to her, sensing her agitation.  She stroked their scaly bodies absently, trying to understand the spread.  The last four cards probably indicated the same person, and it was not Taurus, who did not "lust" after her, at least not in the context the card portrayed, and who she knew she could never truly bond with.

So who would it be?  Vejiita?  No, he apparently hated her.  Raditz?  But he was busily courting Kariifuuru.  Nenai sighed and gave up trying to solve the mystery.  It would eventually come clear...the prophesies of the keishiva always did.
